About this test

Mental age isn't a scientific measurement: no lab issues an official number. What can be observed is regulation — how someone handles a letdown, a disagreement, an overdraft, a short night. Developmental psychologists call it executive function and frustration tolerance; in real life it mostly looks like answering an annoying message without sending it twice.

This test takes eighteen ordinary situations and watches what you do, not what you believe about yourself. Money, conflict, sleep and humour get special weight, because those are the four areas where the front slips fastest. You can tell yourself anything about your personality; you tell your bank statement a lot less.

The result reads as an age, but it says nothing about your worth. Plenty of people who are deeply mature at work stay adolescent in love, and the reverse is just as common. A low score isn't a manufacturing fault: it's a pointer to where changing one single reflex would buy you the most comfort.

How it works

Every answer is worth 0 to 4 points depending on the degree of regulation it implies. The total is scaled to 100 and converted into an age band. Extreme answers aren't penalised in themselves — what counts is the gap between what you feel and what you do.
