About this test
A penalty shootout is football's cruellest exercise because it isolates a single skill: keeping your hand steady while everything else shakes. This version swaps the ball for a cursor sweeping across a bar, with a green zone in the middle marking the only spot the keeper can't reach.
The cursor moves at a strictly constant speed with no hidden acceleration. The game is therefore entirely predictable, and every miss is a pure timing failure. That's what makes it maddening: nobody to blame, no randomness, just a click that was early or late.
Good players use a counterintuitive approach. Instead of staring at the green zone, they watch the edge the cursor bounces off, count the trip in their head, and click on the beat rather than on the image. The brain is far better at keeping a rhythm than at instant visual detection.
How it works
Five shots, one click each. The success zone covers the central quarter of the bar. Your score maps directly to goals scored, from zero to five.
